Maid of Honor Diaries: Engagement Party

Tuesday, November 8, 2016

If you haven't already seen on my social media, my sister is getting married in the spring! We're so excited and have been planning like crazy. So far, we've found the dream dress and our bridesmaid dresses. The venue is set and she's found a photographer. It's getting real!

A few Saturdays ago, we threw an engagement party at our house with both families and members of the bridal party who were able to attend. It was so much fun and a great way for the families to get acquainted.

Our theme was "falling in love" so we decorated with fall colors and served hamburgers with donuts and s'mores for dessert. Roasting marshmallows was the perfect activity for our theme!

Thanks to my mom's amazing Pinterest skills, we created some adorable take-home party favors. We wrapped packages of popcorn in a brown paper bag we cut to give them "brown paper packages tied up with string" vibes and I customized the Pinterest message to say "Jon popped the question - Jordan said yes!" They turned out to be a super simple and cute favor.

I love playing games at parties so I had planned some in advance and I think those were a hit. They really helped break the ice and get the families talking. For one of the games, I asked the guests to anonymously write down their funniest memory with the couple (or half of the couple if they hadn't spent time with them together yet) and then I read each memory and had my sister and her fiancé guess who had written the memory. Once the person was revealed, they shared the full story. It resulted in a lot of laughs!

My second game was a version of "guess the celebrity spouse" and I read three clues about the celebrity but the trick was, they had to shout the name of the spouse. We played in teams - Bride vs. Groom - and Team Bride won by a mile. Who knew the groom's family wasn't up to date on Kimye?

The night was so much fun and a great way to get us all in wedding mode. Stay tuned for more updates and events taking place until the big day!
