How to Creatively Use Instagram Stories

Tuesday, November 7, 2017

I don't know about you guys, but I have a lot more fun with Instagram stories than I do with actual posts! I love writing on Instagram stories, I have no idea why it's so thrilling but it is. I've been having a lot of fun with stories since Instagram first made them a thing a few months ago. You can add so much to a simple picture - there are so many opportunities to be creative with stories.

Today, I'm sharing some of my absolute favorite ways to spice up an Instagram story and have some fun with your followers! You want to make sure when someone views your story, they're so interested in what they see that they look forward to seeing your stories again in the future!

Screenshots

I love tweeting so if I think one of my tweets is extra funny and needs to be shared to an even bigger audience, I take a screenshot and post it on my Instagram story reminding people of how they can find me on Twitter. Don't overdo it with screenshots, but they're a great way to incorporate your other channels into your Instagram and showcase different content.

Stickers

Instagram stories have really cool, themed stickers built in! All you have to do is press one button and you can add tons of fun holiday stickers and vibes for every day of the week! It's easy to dress up a picture by piling on the crazy stickers - you can even add the time and temperature through stickers!

Polls

Polls are one of the best ways to engage with your audience on any platform and I'm so glad Instagram introduced them to stories! Also found in the stickers panel, you can add a poll to ask your followers' opinion on all sorts of things! Keep it short, sweet, and playful! Oh, and don't forget to play with color when you're typing on your stories and think outside the box when it comes to photos! I love this interactive feature!

Locations

My tip for wowing your followers with great images is to take your photos outside of the Instagram app and upload them into your story! Photos taken with your DSLR, GoPro, or even iPhone camera have stunning quality and capabilities - which the camera in Instagram's app doesn't always have. When you have a great picture, it really speaks for itself so all you have to do is pop on a location in stickers and you're good to go.

Shadow Fonts

The best way to take your basic typed font to the next level is typing it TWICE - once in black and once in white. This shadow effect looks so cool and all I did was layer the white text over the black to create the image of a shadow.

Handwriting

I told y'all writing on Instagram stories is one of my favorite things! It's just so personalized and you can do anything you want - any style of writing, all sorts of colors, and tiny drawings to emphasize your images. Trust me, once you start writing, you'll never want to stop!
