4th of July | Desserts + Decor

Happy July! Since the 4th of July is coming up this week, I wanted to share some inspiration for your celebrations. My mom and I made this really fun initial cake and decorated it for the Fourth of July — it turned out so cool and festive.

We made it by baking a simple box cake mix in a sheet pan, which we cooled in the refrigerator before tracing a C on wax paper to use as a guide for cutting the two layers of C's out of the cake. We then put frosting between the layers and on top in drops. After that, we used all different kinds of toppings to create a fun, patriotic look.

One of the desserts we used to top the cake were red, white, and blue whoopie pies. You can make these on their own without the cake and they'll be a cute, fun, and festive dessert for your event! I have the recipe for these whoopie pies already on the blog — this time, just be sure to split the mix into two bowls before adding the red and blue food coloring!

We also used sugar cookies that we baked in the shape of stars, strawberries, cherries, and red, white, & blue M&M's to decorate the cake. We used the cake that was leftover to make some cake pops to place on top, as well.

These red, white, and blue Hostess cupcakes are an easy, store-bought snack for the holiday that are pre-packaged and convenient for any activities on the go. You can take them with you to the beach or the lake for a fun, festive treat that everyone can enjoy.

You might have noticed the patriotic Mickey and Minnie cups in the photos. We got these from Walmart — you know I love anything Disney and these cups are perfect for the 4th of July!

I hope you all have a great Fourth of July! What are your plans for celebrating?
