august chit chat

Tuesday, August 21, 2018

This photo is from an #ad post brought to you by HerCampus Media that will be on Instagram later this week! I was gifted these Almay Goddess Glosses. The photo was too cute not to share!

Hey y'all! The last time I sat down just to talk was in April, so I thought a chit chat post was long overdue. There are a few exciting things I wanted to recap that might have made it to social media, but never made it here and a few things you might not find too exciting that I'm probably going to share! Let me know in the comments what you've been up to this summer!

An update post would be nothing without a discussion of what I've been watching on Netflix and beyond because I'm pretty much an expert in this field. Let's start with the most recent thing I've watched — To All the Boys I've Loved Before on Netflix! It's such a good movie and I feel like that's something I rarely say about Netflix Originals. I highly recommend it. The show I'm currently watching on Netflix is Merlin, which I'm also really enjoying, and you can always see the rest of my Netflix favorites here.

So I finally watched The Greatest Showman and it really does have some great songs. A Million Dreams might be my new anthem. Other movies I've watched recently: Christopher Robin {soooo good}, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom {decent}, and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! {loved it}.

As far as regular TV goes, I've been watching Kids Baking Championship on Food Network, which is something I always enjoy, and Making It on NBC, which reminds me a lot of The Great British Baking Show so obviously I love it. Another summer favorite of my family's is Beat Shazam on Fox — we love guessing the songs and I think I would be a strong contender on the show.

This should be a fun topic because something pretty crazy happened recently on Twitter — my tweet was added to a moment! That was such a wild experience for me because you guys know how much I love Twitter. Long story short, I randomly tweeted about The Plain White T's song "Hey There Delilah" and the next day, a TV show based on the song was announced. I can't believe the timing and luck that went into that, but now I finally know what people mean by the phrase "blowing up my phone" because I was getting notifications like crazy that day.

Before all of that, I finally reached my goal of 900 followers on Twitter, but not too long after I dropped back down to 897 so there's that! I've actually been focusing most of my efforts on Pinterest lately where I'm getting 200k+ monthly viewers {exciting!!} and lots of traffic to my blog posts. If you aren't following me yet, I am very active and share pretty cool things on my boards.

I think I'm getting better at Instagram, too! Still not a super-regular-poster, but I try. I'm @snackqueenmads if you want to give me a follow, I'm sharing something fun later this week — a sneak peek was at the beginning of this post!

Khalid's American Teen is still my go-to, but I'm absolutely obsessed with the Pop Rocks channel on Sirius XM {channel 12}. It's actually so exciting to listen to this radio station because you never know what song from the 90s or 2000s might come on next. It's definitely preparing me to go on Beat Shazam. My other favorite Sirius station is The Pulse {channel 15} because they're always playing The Script or The Fray or Gavin DeGraw so it's always a fun time in my car.

I've been trying to get into Ariana Grande's Sweetener album, but I've only listened to it a couple of times so far. Also, I've never been a huge podcast fan, but I took a road trip with my cousin last week and we listened to a few episodes of NPR's How I Built This and I really enjoyed those! I was genuinely interested in hearing these entrepreneur's stories. We listened to the episodes about Five Guys and Kendra Scott.

I was tempted to just write "Nothing." in this section because that's what it feels like right now trying to remember what all I've been doing for the past four months. I know you know I went on a Disney cruise to Alaska — if you've spent one minute on this website for the past few months, you know. If this is your first time on this website, be sure to check out those posts which can be found in both the Travel and Disney sections under Categories at the top of the page!

I've mainly just been working super hard to create fun content and grow my social media communities. I've also been attending pretty much every single Starbucks Happy Hour this summer {minus one or two} so I never go to Starbucks now if there isn't a "deal" so I'm not sure what I'll do when the weekly Happy Hour ends. I think my attendance is probably an accomplishment though and I wouldn't say no to an award.

Oh, one more thing! In June, my family went to an escape room for the first time and that was a lot of fun. I thought I was pretty smart and good at riddles, but I wasn't as great as I was expecting in that room. It was tough to get started, especially when we had no idea what to expect with an escape room, but we really had a great time!

Let me know in the comments what you did this summer and what things you've been loving! Be sure to follow along and leave your links!
