Holiday Movie Reviews | What's New for 2018

by - Tuesday, December 04, 2018

Netflix has been giving us great holiday movies every week for the past few weeks and I'll be honest — I've been loving it. Today, I'm telling y'all which of these new movies {+ the new holiday movies in theaters} I loved and which ones might not be worth your time. I didn't include any new movies from traditional TV channels, mainly because I haven't watched many this year — it's so much easier to watch Netflix movies because they're available at any time of any day and I love that convenience.

My movie reviews are below, in no particular order. I won't give any spoilers at all so the reviews may be a little vague, but I don't want to give anything away! I think all of these movies are worth a watch if you have a chance to see them, a few should just be a little more prioritized.

The Princess Switch

Netflix

I think it's safe to say this is my favorite movie on the list considering I've watched it twice already. It's so good!! I can't have any complaints about the acting in this one because Vanessa Hudgens plays the two main roles! We all know she's talented. I highly recommend this one if you have a Netflix account. {10/10 recommend}

The Christmas Chronicles

Netflix

This movie is so fun! It's really enjoyable, high quality, and it's so nice to see a Christmas movie that isn't about two people falling in love once in a while. This one should definitely be on your list. Even though it stars kids, I didn't think it was a kid movie — not childish at all in my opinion. {9/10 recommend}

The Holiday Calendar

Netflix

This movie has an interesting storyline and a very modern feel, but the acting wasn't great in my opinion. Once I got past that, though, I was really interested to see how things would play out! If you only have time for a few movies this month, I would 100% choose the two above over this one. {7/10 recommend}

A Christmas Prince 2: The Royal Wedding

Netflix

I should've refreshed my memory on the first one before I watched this sequel because, one year later, I couldn't remember several of the details that carried over into this movie. Although I enjoyed A Christmas Prince, this sequel honestly didn't thrill me. It was very slow and I could've gone without watching it. {6/10 recommend}

The Grinch

In theaters

Ok, the latest version of the Grinch is very targeted to small children, not at all like the Jim Carrey version we had growing up. I might be biased because I love that one — the humor, the quotable lines, the ultimate relatableness. This new animated movie is entirely different. It wasn't one of my favorite movies, but it's cute and great for kids! {6/10 recommend}

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

In theaters

I thought this movie was really good! I think all Disney movies are good, but this one had a lot of holiday aspects and I appreciated the girl power vibes. Definitely worth watching in my opinion. It would be a great movie for a girls night out this holiday season! {9/10 recommend}
