ALDI Shopping List | My Favorite Buys

by - Thursday, July 11, 2019

I've decided I have a love/hate relationship with Aldi. I love them because they have some really good products and they're usually super cheap {I got all 5 items in the picture above for $7.60!!}, but I kind of hate them because I always find something that I absolutely love, go back to get more, and find out they no longer sell it.

I guess this is the risk you have to take when shopping there, but since their merchandise is always changing, you might find something new to love the next time you go! Fortunately, most of the things on my list of favorites have always been available in my local store and I've made a note on the items that aren't always in stock.

+ Bagels

Bagels are my number one favorite thing to get at Aldi. They're insanely cheap – less than $2 for 6 full size bagels – and they're super convenient for breakfast. My favorite type to get is plain, but I also get blueberry sometimes and they're really good, too. I love to put strawberry cream cheese on mine and I just recently discovered that Aldi sells this so I tried their brand and I really like it. It's less than $2 as well.

+ Blackberries & Blueberries

I've mentioned before that blackberries are my favorite fruit and I always go to Aldi for them. They're inexpensive, especially when they're on sale {there's always a different fruit on sale} and I've never had a problem with their quality. I also love to get blueberries when they're on sale. Occasionally, I'll get strawberries, but I've noticed that strawberries are more likely to have imperfections regardless of where they're from, so I tend to stick with blueberries and blackberries.

+ Almond Butter

Unlike peanut butter, almond butter can get pretty pricey. Aldi has one of the most reasonably priced almond butters {it's somewhere between $4 and $5 in my store} and the jar is only slightly smaller than others I've seen for around $9. This isn't something I buy regularly because one jar will last a while for me, it's not something I eat every day. If you've been wanting to try almond butter for the first time or you're just looking for a cheaper option, give theirs a try!

+ Whole Wheat Noodles

For some reason, this is one of those items that I can't find lately! Actually, they did have whole wheat spaghetti noodles the last time I was there, but I got hooked on whole wheat rotini from Aldi. I should have known something was up when it was on sale for less than $1 and I should have bought way more boxes than I did. If your Aldi has whole wheat noodles, stock up! Related to this, Aldi has a line of products with the name "Fit and Active" and I used to get the traditional pasta sauce in this line because it had very low amounts of sodium, but I can't find it anymore either! This sauce and whole wheat noodles had become one of my favorite meals and I highly recommend it if you can find them.

+ Pita Chips

Aldi has really good pita chips, which are great for a snack or party. I used to love eating them because I feel like they're healthier than potato chips, but I haven't really had a craving for them in a while. I did check to make sure they're still available though! They're less than $3, maybe even less than $2 because I don't remember right off hand, so a great snack option for sure!

+ Greeting Cards

This might seem strange, but Aldi has the best greeting cards around holidays! They're always 99 cents at my store and they are super cute and high quality. They'll occasionally have birthday cards, thank you cards, get well cards, wedding-related cards and I definitely recommend grabbing a few for future use if you see some because they aren't always in stock. I also noticed they had cards for Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and graduations. In my opinion, their greeting cards are definitely one of the hidden gems.

+ Yogurt

You probably won't find any well-known name brands in the yogurt section at Aldi, but their store brand isn't bad! You can get a large container of yogurt for a really low price which is great if you make a lot of smoothies. I don't get yogurt that often, but I really enjoyed the strawberry skyr Icelandic style yogurt {pictured above} which is thicker and typically better for you than regular yogurt. It's not the cheapest item at 99 cents per individual-size carton, but definitely worth a try if you haven't had it before.

+ m&m Mini Ice Cream Bars

I don't even want to put this item on the list because it makes me so sad. I look for these every single time I go to Aldi, but I haven't found them since last summer. I'm including it because I don't want y'all to miss this opportunity if you happen to spot some because they're literally the best. They're basically shaped like small candy bars, but they're vanilla ice cream filled with m&ms coated in chocolate in a rectangular shape. They were so tasty and the perfect size for a small treat. Even though my absolute favorites are no longer there, I've recently seen other ice cream treats that feature m&ms, Snickers, and other popular candies that you might like instead!

What I Don't Buy From Aldi

As you can see from the list, I get mostly snacks and breakfast foods from Aldi. I don't typically buy meat, milk, or many of their refrigerated items for no real reason other than I prefer getting those at my usual grocery store that I've gone to long before Aldi came to town. I can't say these items aren't good because I've never actually tried most of them! There are just a few things that Aldi doesn't stock, so I mainly go there for the fun extras and get my staples at a different store. You also won't find a lot of big brand names at Aldi and when you do, there will be a very limited selection of flavors, etc. so you'll probably want to visit another store for those.
